Video: tune-yards in Barcelona

Merrill Garbus, giving the bizness

Here’s a cool video from Pitchfork TV of Merrill Garbus, the tune-yards front lady, playing “Wolly Wolly Gong” in front of a crazy looking church in Barcelona. It’s an interesting juxtaposition of football revelers, celebrating Barca’s Champions League victory and Merrill playing her lullaby dwarfed by the church. As she describes it “..like singing a lullaby at the end of the world.”

Song of the Day – “Doorstep” tUnE-YarDs

Merrill Garbus, made you look.

It is an absolutely beautiful summer Friday here in Boulder, CO. And what goes better with a summer day than good music and a tasty beverage. Today’s song “Doorstep” is by the amazing tUnE-YarDs, lead by Merril Garbus. I just adore her voice/singing style/persona so much I don’t really know what else to say.  “Doorstep” is driven by a stuttering drum part, and clattering percussion as Merril’s voice bounces playfully along, blending in and out of rich harmonies with herself. also the bridge/break down section feels right out of a mo-town classic. so basically i’m telling you to do two things. #1 listen to doorstep and #2 check out the new tUnE-YarDs album W H O K I L L .
